Today is the day I plan to get brave and tackle my son’s bedroom and officially work on my first blog post!! I am excited and well have some nerves going into this especially because this will be my first actual blog post! Not even sure where to start when it comes to typing here but I hope to just be myself and help someone out a long the way.
We bought our home, second home, back in 2019, brand new, cookie cutter home but hubby and I do NOT like cookie cutter. It is our mission to make this house stand out and when it comes to reselling in the future, well future buyers will love it! My husband and I did this with our last home, bought brand new and over the course of 5 years we made our home ours. When it came time to selling it was a bidding war between buyers and we got several thousands over asking, win win for us all and our hard work paid off. So when going into a project we think about what would future buyers like and in this case my son, since it is his room!
Okay enough rambling my sons room is this empty box, of course with furniture, toys, nerf guns galore and JUNK if you ask me. We definitely need to come up with some storage system, shelves, something. So after plenty of research on the best platform EVER.. Pinterest, I decided I wanted a desk attached to a window bench, attached to cabinetry and shelves and make this as modern farmhouse as I can on a budget! The best thing about knowing how to work with tools and build things yourself is its much cheaper, make builds the way you want, and bragging rights. Hope y’all plan to follow this room makeover along the way.*Promise to keep y’all updated.
So far in my room makeover process we got the built in desk completed, window trim added, cabinetry in, and the shell of the window bench. I am so happy with the way everything is coming out so far.
I have a complete tutorial here on how to make the shaker style drawers, which was very easy! I am working on a tutorial on how to complete desk. I decided to paint the bottom of the desk Benjamin Moore Super White in satin, it is such nice white for getting that farmhouse feel. Goes great with black hardware. The desk top is white oak, absolutely gorgeous! I plan on leaving this in its natural state and just sealing it.
The window trim is completed, painted and caulked, I also used Benjamin Moore Super white is sating sheen for this so it would match the desk. My picture isn’t great because of lighting, I am working on my editing skills but for now this is how they came out and you can also find a complete HOW TO here on the farmhouse window trim. I also found the perfect grayish blue roman shade at Pottery Barn for this window, and it was on SALE!
So the storage window bench and cabinetry is a work in progress, I will show you what we have so far today but it is definitely coming along and can’t wait for all of this to be completed so I can start with the decor process. All my inspirations for my son’s room you can find here. This room is far from being finish I will continue to update.
